Add your milk and sugar to a saucepan and bring to a boil on medium-high heat (approximately 10 minutes).
Then reduce the temperature and continue to simmer until it thickens, ensuring to stir periodically in between to prevent lumps. You can also use a spoon to skim off any fat that may form on the top of the milk.
Once it thickens and coats your spoon, about 45 minutes, remove from heat and add your remaining ingredients.
