OVEN ROASTED AND FRIED BREADFRUIT RECIPE

Breadfruit is a popular ingredient in Jamaican cuisine, recognized for its starchy texture and slight sweetness. Breadfruit is traditionally roasted over an open flame, but utilizing an oven provides a more convenient option without sacrificing flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 Mature Breadfruit
  • 2 tbsp Oil or as needed
  • Salt as needed

Instructions

  • Wash and dry the mature breadfruit.
  • Cut out the stem and mark an x on the opposite end.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F for 2 hours. You can wrap it in foil or roast as is.
  • The breadfruit is done when a knife clean through it clean.
  • Once cooled, peel the skin and cut the breadfruit in quarters.
  • Remove the heart and cut the breadfruit in slices. The thinner the slice, the crispier it will be when you fry it.
  • Lightly sprinkle salt on both sides of each slice of breadfruit.
  • Add 2 tbsp oil to a pan and fry on medium heat for 2-3 mins per side.
