IS OATS PORRIDGE AND OATMEAL THE SAME?

Oatmeal refers to a dish made with only rolled oats or instant oats that is either eaten raw or cooked. Oats porridge is a broader term that encompasses any form of cooked oats such as steel cut, instant, rolled, or even oat flour.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR JAMAICAN OATS PORRIDGE

1. Oats – This recipe specifically calls for quick cooking oats.

2. cinnamon stick

4. condensed milk

5. Cinnamon – The extra cinnamon is optional, but it does add additional flavour.

6. Salt

7. nutmeg

8. vanilla

9. milk

HOW TO MAKE JAMAICAN OATS PORRIDGE

1. Bring 2 cups of water, cinnamon stick, and salt to a boil on medium heat.

2. Add in cinnamon powder, nutmeg and oats. Lower the heat to medium low and cook for 5 mins.

3. Add in your milk, vanilla, condensed milk and cook for another 5 mins.

4. Remove from heat and enjoy.

HOW TO STORE IT

You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Porridge thickens after sitting, so add more liquid when reheating to achieve the same consistency.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 cup Quick Cooking Oats
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • ½ cup Milk
  • ¼-½ cup Condensed Milk

Instructions

Notes

Using 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp of condensed milk is the perfect sweetness, but you can sweeten it to your preference.
