INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR BANANA BULLA CAKES

1. All Purpose Flour – Spoon and levelled.

2. Light Brown Sugar

3. Nutmeg

4. Salt

5. Molasses

6. Baking Powder

7. Vanilla

8. Butter

9. Overripe Banana

10. Ginger Powder

11. Mixed Spice

12. Cinnamon

13. Baking Soda

HOW TO MAKE JAMAICAN BANANA BULLA CAKES

1. In a large bowl, mash one medium overripe banana.

2. Add in 2 tsp vanilla, 2 tbsp melted unsalted butter, 1 tsp molasses, and 3/4 cup light brown sugar (120g). Mix well.

3. In a separate bowl, add in 2 cups flour (250g), 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp mixed spice, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp ginger, 3/4 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp baking soda.

4. Dust your surface with 1 tbsp flour and roll out your dough to 1/2″ thickness.

5. Use a 2 1/2″ cookie cutter to cut out your bulla and bore a small hole in the middle of the bulla.

6. Bake at 350F for 10 mins. Brush with 1/2 tbsp melted butter once done. Let cool for at least 10 mins before enjoying.

HOW TO STORE IT

Your bulla cakes will last for up to 4 days in an airtight container.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour Spoon and levelled. Plus 1 tbsp for dusting
  • ¾ cup Light Brown Sugar 120g
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Molasses
  • ¾ tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 tsp Vanilla
  • 2 tbsp Butter 30g
  • 1 Overripe Banana
  • 1 tsp Ginger Powder
  • ½ tsp Mixed Spice
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda

Instructions

Notes

You can also do 1 tsp baking powder if you want a little more rise and softness.
