The classic grilled cheese sandwich – a childhood favorite for many of us. Nothing beats the combination of melted cheese and toasty bread that makes this sandwich a popular comfort food. Whether you make it with American cheese, cheddar, or a combination of your favorite cheese, a grilled cheese sandwich is a truly delicious creation.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR A GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH
1. Bread – Try to use bread slices that are roughly ¾”- 1″ thick. Thinner bread slices will result in a flimsy sandwich and anything thicker may require longer grill time so that the cheese melts.
2. Salted Butter
3. Cheddar
4. Gouda
5. Mayo (optional) – If you can, do not omit this. This gives your grilled cheese sandwich more flavor.
HOW TO MAKE IT
1. Heat your pan on medium low heat.
2. Spread 1/2 tbsp of mayo on one side of each bread slice and 1/2 tbsp of soften butter on the opposite side.
3. Place one slice of bread, mayo side down in the hot pan.
4. Layer the bread with one slice of gouda and 2 slices of cheddar, and then top it with your other bread slice, mayo side out.
5. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
6. Repeat the steps for your remaining sandwich.
7. Slice in half and serve hot on its own or pair it with a bowl of creamy tomato soup.
